Over the course of a day and a half, I had the privilege of photographing the Brothers Junior Rugby League Club right here in Mackay, Queensland. This massive project included 30 different teams and over 400 players, ranging from the Under 6s to the Under 17s, both boys and girls. It was a full schedule, but also one of the most rewarding photography jobs I’ve ever done.
To keep the quality consistent across so many sessions, I set up two professional studio spaces inside the Brothers Bulldogs clubhouse. One was arranged for team photos, while the other used a clean white backdrop for individual portraits. This setup ensured that lighting stayed the same across all teams and age groups, regardless of the time of day.
Every player first had their individual photo taken. Many chose to hold a rugby ball or strike a confident “power pose.” These personal touches gave each child the chance to feel like the superstar athlete they are. After that, the full team gathered for their official photo in their Bulldogs uniforms.
Each team was scheduled for 15 minutes, and thanks to the players’ enthusiasm and cooperation, the sessions ran like a well-oiled machine. It was clear that these kids love their sport and their club. The organisation made it possible to move through 30 teams efficiently without losing the energy and fun of the day.
The best part? Every player received both their team photo and a personalised individual portrait. These keepsakes aren’t just photos, they’re memories of a season, friendships, and the pride of wearing their Bulldogs jersey.
Team photos are more than just pictures. For young athletes, they create a sense of pride and belonging. For parents and families, they’re cherished keepsakes. And for clubs, having high-quality, consistent images helps promote the culture and professionalism of the sport.
By setting up a structured, streamlined process, I’m able to make these large-scale sessions run smoothly while still keeping them fun. Players get to feel seen and celebrated, and clubs walk away with polished images that showcase their community.
If you’re part of a junior sports club in Mackay – or anywhere in Queensland – now is the perfect time to plan your own team and individual photo sessions. Whether it’s rugby league, netball, soccer, or any other sport, I bring the same professional setup and organised approach to make sure every athlete shines.
