If you’ve booked a brand mini session in Mackay, first of all, good move. But here’s the part most people skip.
Preparation.
It’s only 20 minutes. And when you come in clear and organised, those 20 minutes go a long way.
Recently, I photographed a local life coach in the studio. She walked in knowing exactly what she wanted her business to feel like. That made everything easier. The images weren’t random. They were intentional.
Here’s how to do the same.
Before your session, sit down and ask:
Where will I actually use these?
Different platforms need different energy. A warm smiling photo might be perfect for social media. A stronger, direct-to-camera image might work better for a sales page.
If you don’t plan this first, you’ll end up with photos that look good… but don’t quite fit anywhere.
Clarity first. Camera second.
You’ll receive a shot guide before your mini. Don’t just glance at it. Highlight 8–10 images that matter most to you. That way, we stay focused without feeling stiff or overly posed. I’ll guide you through everything on the day. But knowing your priorities helps us move efficiently. Twenty minutes sounds short. It’s not – if we’re intentional.
For a mini session, one strong outfit is enough.
Bring a jacket or accessory if you want variety. But multiple full changes will eat into shooting time.
Choose something that:
Avoid large logos and tiny patterns. They distract. And if you’re constantly adjusting your clothes, that tension shows in your photos.
Comfort equals confidence. Confidence photographs well.
Treat this like a big meeting. Don’t schedule three stressful appointments before it. Don’t rush in flustered from the Mackay heat. Arrive calm. Give yourself space. The more relaxed you are, the more natural the photos feel. At the beginning of the session, I’ll show you the back of the camera. That usually changes everything. You see yourself properly, and suddenly you relax. That shift is where the magic happens.
Brand minis aren’t about getting “a few nice photos.” They’re about creating images you’ll actually use. If you’re prepared, 20 minutes is more than enough. And if you’re thinking about booking the next Mackay brand mini day, spots are released once per quarter and they don’t last long.
