LRC Mackay Running Club

In 2018, I was far from a happy mindset. Weighed down by challenges out of my control.  After my son turned two, I decided that the negativity in my head needed a shake down. As if it were meant to be, LRC Mackay Running Club were starting their next Learn2Run group. A friend joined with me and whole new world unfolded in front of me.

I bundled up my 2yo in the not-quite running pram, and learnt to run 5 km with a pram!  I went on to run 10km, and decided to continue running and start training for a half-marathon (21.2km) in 2019. That year, I ran my first half-marathon in the Mackay Marina Run, a month later run in the Gold Coast (half) Marathon and raised $2000 for Leukaemia Foundation in the process!

The physical achievements are amazing, but what is even more awesome are the friendships made at LRC.  Finding a running buddy, to cheer, encourage and support over coffee is life changing.  I’m so grateful for stepping into the running world with LRC Mackay Running Club.

Why running?

Running is hard, particularly the first 5ks! The benefits have been amazing. Physically and mentally. Having a run before work improved my mental clarity for the day, improve self-esteem and confidence. Knowing I did something hard before the day had begun is a huge accomplishment.

Learn2Run programs

Stay up to date for new dates.

The Learn2Run programs are FREE, it only costs your time. The program is run 3 times per week for 12 weeks.  The first week is a slow interval running for 5 kilometres. Each week the run interval increases, and by the end of the 12 weeks you are confidently running 5km!

  • Saturdays 5:45am sharp, (arrive 15 min earlier to register) 1st Saturdays from Mantra carpark. Other Saturdays are  from Laffo’s Canelands.
  • Tuesday & Thursday: 5:30am sharp (arrive 5 mins earlier) start from City Fitness Victoria Street.

This is where you’re introduced to and look forward to post-run coffee and chats!!

LRC Mackay Running Club

Dawn and Chrissy are the backbone and driving force of this running club.  For over a decade this purple club can be seen pounding the pavement – over Forgan Bridge during the week, and Bluewater trail on Saturdays.  More than providing a place of running and connection, they participate in social fun runs and charity fundraisers in the community.

Lace up your running shoes and start a journey of self discovery, fitness and friendship. Whether you’re newbie or pro LRC Mackay Running Club has a place for you!
